What is a “Reveal”?

When we use the word reveal, we are referring to the space around the doors and drawer fronts. Reveals can be used to create different aesthetics. For faceframe cabinets, our custom cabinets have a 1” reveal and prefab have 1/2” reveal. By having a larger reveal, you can create a cabinet face with depth for that classic-heirloom cabinetry look. For a more modern and sleek aesthetic, full overlay (or frameless) cabinets have a reveal of 1/8”. On these cabinets, the entire face is made up of the doors and drawer fronts.

For most prefab cabinets, the reveal is 1/2” as pictured below:

A white bathroom vanity with black handles, a marble countertop, and a mirror above. There's a window on the left side and a doorway on the right. A gold spiral is drawn on the right side of the cabinet.

On our custom cabinets, we have a 1'“ reveal (below):

Wooden kitchen cabinets above a black refrigerator, with electrical outlets and switches on the wall.
Kitchen with gray cabinets, white subway tile backsplash, stainless steel microwave above stove, and a white countertop with drawers. Yellow circles highlight cabinet doors, drawer handles, and part of the countertop.

For full overlay cabinets, the reveal is 1/8”. All the lines are tight and create a sleek modern look:

White kitchen cabinets with silver handles, black countertop, stainless steel microwave, coffee maker, and various kitchen items. Top shelf holds decorative rooster figure and framed chicken art. Yellow lines highlight cabinets and drawers.
